Ghetto, brick factory, railway station, and mass grave – this time the neighbours of the Hungarian Jews recall the past. What did they do and what could have they done? What did they see and what did they decide not to see of what was going on right in their backyards during the last days of Second World War?
This film speaks of the present as much as it does about history: it conjures up the ghosts of sixty years of silence and the failure to come to terms with the past.
”I don’t like talking about it, because it is a bad memory.”
”These people were born here, and not supposed to leave this place.”
”The world was in such a mess then… and the man-in-the-street really could not be blamed for it.”
”We were in a rather close relationship, but they did not talk about what went on in there. They said nothing, and I asked nothing.”
