"Rinaldo" is a romantic adventure film, a classical tale, with a classical basic setting and classical roles.
It is not the standard crime story, but rather a true bandit film. It is the Hungarian version of "The Seven Samurai" and "The Magnificent Seven". However, this is not a western but rather an "eastern".
The terrorised village, which is the central element of the above film classics, is represented by the denizens of a large and run down block of flats in Pest. Here the vicious gang of bandits on horseback is portrayed by a band of low-life suburban gangsters, and it is not Wild West gunmen or samurai warriors who come to the defence of the hapless, but rather a group of workers who have been made redundant from an ironworks.
In this film too the oppressed and their protectors are bound together by ties of touching friendship and love. Fighting, spectacular battles, intrigue, love, death and a relatively happy ending. Thanks to one of the prominent figures in this tale, a foreign itinerant knife throwing performer who has left a travelling circus, the heroes do not need a funeral at the end of this version.
The name of the extraordinary foreigner is none other than Rinaldo.
