This film engaged young stars to present Hungarian reality at the end of the nineties in the form of an amusing action movie. We meet the heroes of the film at the beginning of the story as they are working on closing their first official assignment. They are about to lock up a mafia-guy named Zavarov from the ex-Soviet Union, who is wanted by half of Europe’s police. But the investigation that starts out as a routine case turns into a national hostage drama, because the case is taken from the team branded as amateurs. Due to this intervention Zavarov gets away and while on the run, he takes over a train (Europe Express) on its way to Vienna and blackmails his pursuers, threatening to kill the passengers. The young team decide to stop Zavarov. An authentic film, abundant in action movie scenes, Europe Express attempts to compete with American action movies in its images and atmosphere, but surprises even the genre’s connaisseur with its dramaturgical turns.
