In an unnamed country, a secret police organization protects the powers that be. No one can be sure the organization exists, but everyone suspects it does. Occasionally a few people disappear perhaps to be later identified as victims of accidents. Even the wealthiest and most respected citizens of the country are at risk – especially if they go looking for trouble. There is someone in the family of Hoffmann, the powerful millionaire, who tries to prove the existence of the organization or, as they like to call it, the Upstairs. It is Hoffman's son, and clearly it is only a matter of time before he gets into trouble.
So Hoffmann comes up with a brilliant plan to keep him safe. It is too bad that his conspiratorial activities end up leaving his son's name in the records of Upstairs.
When the son goes missing, Hoffmann still believes he is in control. Once again, he feels compelled to act.
The question is if it is the father or the agents of the organization that turn out to be more creative…
