This story is a contemporary one to the last detail, covering a time span of 40 days, in a dry summer rarely releived by short rain. In this persistent heat six actors accompanied by two people, the Organizer and the Musician, set out on a tour in the countryside to make 90 performances in 40 days at 80 different places hoping to make a lot of money. They are always on the road until the last show, in three cars roaming around the country where they happen to perform. Their shows take place in cultural houses, elegant hotels, their audience ranges from dumb rich people through drunk poor people to laughing soldiers but there are times when they meet grateful audiences. There are days with four performances. And they always perform the same thing consisting of Károly Nóti's farces and songs that the Organizer had collected for them. So the film is one long chase in the incessant heat, with white shirts, washed again and again every day and hung in the cars to dry, fluttering in the wind. Quarrels, bloody fights, then making up, a few ecstatic moments, then betrayals, being hurt, fits of honesty, one after the other in a rythm wilder and wilder, anything that could happen among eight people getting closer and closer to exhaustion. The time frame of the film is determined by the ever increasing pace of the pursuit on the one hand, and the character of the eight people manifested wilder and wilder on the other.
